The 10-inch electric hub motor is a drive unit that integrates a gear reduction mechanism, featuring high torque output, independent drive and control, and precise control. Through its integrated design and optional encoder configuration, it provides stable driving power for mobile robot chassis.

In terms of space efficiency, it integrates core components such as the motor, gear reducer, and braking system into a single unit, fully utilizing the internal space of the hub to significantly reduce installation space requirements.

In terms of transmission efficiency, the gear reduction mechanism is directly integrated into the motor, eliminating the need for intermediate transmission components such as couplings and drive shafts required in traditional designs with external reducers, thereby effectively reducing energy transmission losses.

In terms of torque output, the built-in gear reducer significantly amplifies the hub motor torque, enabling higher torque density within the same volume to meet the drive requirements of heavy-duty robot chassis. Additionally, the toothed design excels in efficiency, maintaining a good energy efficiency ratio while ensuring high torque output.

In terms of drive and control, each drive wheel can be equipped with an independent “geared hub” drive unit. This enables electronic differential control (different speeds for inner and outer wheels during turns), torque vector control (enhancing cornering stability and traction), and even on-the-spot turning, improving maneuverability and control, especially in narrow spaces.

 

For low-speed precise control, the geared hub motor supports optional encoders, enabling precise speed and position closed-loop control. Through PWM speed control technology, users can achieve a wide range of speed adjustment capabilities, offering more flexible and precise control. Combined with good dynamic response performance, it is highly suitable for applications requiring frequent starts/stops and precise control.

Indoor Logistics and Warehousing (AGV/AMR): These autonomous robot platforms require frequent starts and stops, precise path following (QR codes, laser SLAM), the ability to carry loads ranging from tens to hundreds of kilograms, and operation on smooth or slightly rough cement/epoxy floors.

Lightweight outdoor/semi-outdoor patrol: Such as park patrol robots, factory perimeter patrol robots, etc. The ground in such environments is relatively flat (asphalt roads, cement roads), may encounter small slopes (<15°), and small obstacles (small stones, speed bumps). The torque provided by the electric hub motor is sufficient to overcome these obstacles, and the IP65 waterproof and dustproof rating is sufficient to meet the usage requirements in such environments.


How to Choose the Most Suitable Hub Motor

When selecting chassis, it is essential to consider the following factors comprehensively: load requirements, required torque/speed, ground conditions (flatness, slope, obstacles), precision requirements, operating environment (indoor/outdoor, waterproof/dustproof requirements), noise restrictions, cost budget, and maintenance convenience.

Key parameters such as gear ratio, protection rating (IP), tire type, encoder accuracy, and load capacity are all designed to address environmental challenges.

Chassis compatibility: The chassis must work in tandem with the hub motor (e.g., drive mode, suspension system) to avoid issues where the hub motor is powerful but the chassis is weak.



10 inch electric hub motors are commonly used in the following environments (the following environments are for reference only; design, customization, and production can be tailored to your specific requirements):

Indoor smooth surfaces (logistics/services): E-commerce warehouse AGVs/AMRs, hotel food delivery robots, hospital cleaning robots. Floors are smooth cement, epoxy flooring, or tiles, requiring frequent starts/stops, precise tracking (±5mm accuracy), load capacity of 50–500kg, and noise sensitivity.

Lightweight outdoor/semi-outdoor (park/factory periphery): Park patrol robots, factory perimeter inspection robots (e.g., power plants, logistics parks). The ground is asphalt, cement, or slightly uneven (small stones, speed bumps), with a slope of <15°, may encounter small obstacles, requires IP65+ protection, and a load capacity of 100–300kg.

Harsh off-road environments (muddy terrain, sandy terrain, steep slopes, large obstacles): field geological exploration, mine inspections. The ground consists of soft muddy/sandy terrain, steep slopes (>20°), and large obstacles (>10cm rocks), requiring IP67+ protection, with a load capacity of >500kg, but with low precision requirements.
