Steering Drive Wheel Motor

The steering drive wheel motor integrates a drive motor, steering motor, and gear reducer into a unified mechanical structure, combining product handling, locomotion, traction, and steering functions into one unit. It is primarily used in automated guided vehicles (AGVs), mobile robots, and intelligent logistics equipment. This design enables the steering drive motor to provide both traction (propulsion) and active steering, granting it two degrees of freedom. Consequently, a single- wheel steering drive motor can execute diverse movement patterns including lateral movement, longitudinal movement, on-the-spot rotation, and diagonal travel.

Highly Integrated Design

This steering drive wheel motor integrates components such as the drive motor, steering motor, servo controller, speed feedback device (e.g., encoder), position feedback mechanism, limit switches, braking mechanism, and support structure into a single compact modular unit.

This design simplifies the installation process. Users only need to connect it to the AGV chassis interface via a flange, eliminating the need for complex debugging and external wiring.

Direct Drive Technology Application

Direct drive mode is achieved using permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) or dual permanent magnet servo motors, eliminating energy loss, mechanical wear, and noise issues associated with traditional gear reducers. This technology delivers higher torque output and millisecond-level response speed, with transmission efficiency exceeding 90%. It enables low-speed high-torque operation and high-precision control. Steering supports 360° omnidirectional rotation, enabling on-the-spot turning, lateral movement, and travel in any direction.

High Load Capacity and Stability

The steering drive wheel motor is highly suitable for heavy-duty towing, supporting cargo handling from hundreds of kilograms to several tons. It is ideal for forklift-style or towing-style AGVs. The integrated output housing and dual-support structure ensure high torsional rigidity and precision, preventing deformation or instability under heavy loads. Certain models incorporate a suspension floating mechanism to adapt to uneven surfaces (e.g., outdoor environments), preventing wheel lift-off and slippage.

For instance, vertical steering drive wheels suit outdoor applications with water-crossing, hill-climbing, and obstacle-crossing capabilities, while horizontal steering drive wheels are better suited for height-restricted indoor scenarios, offering lightweight and high-load solutions.

High-Precision Control and Feedback System

Integrated with high-precision absolute encoders and servo drives, achieving sub-millimeter positioning accuracy and path tracking. The system supports closed-loop control, providing real-time feedback on speed, position, and angle information to ensure accuracy along complex paths (such as curves or obstacle avoidance). Additionally, equipped with limit switches and braking mechanisms to enhance safety, preventing damage during over-travel or emergency stops. Ideal for applications demanding high motion precision, such as component transportation in smart manufacturing or precise docking in logistics warehousing.

Flexibility and Multifunctional Adaptability

A single-wheel steering drive motor configuration enables basic forward, reverse, and turning movements; dual or multiple steering wheels support omnidirectional movement, on-the-spot rotation, and lateral shifting, offering exceptional flexibility.

The steering drive wheel motor is a highly integrated drive component primarily used in automated guided vehicles (AGVs), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), and intelligent logistics equipment.

Indoor Logistics and Warehousing Environments: This steering drive wheel motor is designed for space-constrained indoor warehouses, logistics centers, and automated storage systems, enabling high-precision positioning and flexible steering. In these scenarios, it is often integrated with laser navigation, QR code navigation, or magnetic navigation to achieve automated goods transportation, shelf docking, and path obstacle avoidance.

Manufacturing and Assembly Line Environments: In automotive manufacturing plants, electronics assembly workshops, or heavy machinery production lines, the steering drive wheel motor supports high-tonnage material handling and is suitable for scenarios demanding high precision. It enables omnidirectional movement and on-the-spot rotation, adapting to complex path planning such as curved navigation or multi-robot collaboration.

Outdoor and Complex Terrain Environments: Specifically designed for outdoor applications such as ports, parking lots, or outdoor logistics yards, featuring water-crossing, hill-climbing, and obstacle-crossing capabilities. In uneven terrain or low-clearance scenarios, its dual-support structure and suspension floating mechanism ensure stability, preventing wheel slippage or damage. Suitable for GNSS navigation or hybrid navigation modes, supporting heavy-duty towing and long-distance transport.

Special operating conditions and hazardous environments: In chemical plants, flammable and explosive areas, or explosion-proof zones, customized versions of this steering drive motor (such as explosion-proof models) provide safety solutions, supporting specialized motor and drive designs. It is suitable for hazardous scenario inspections, environmental monitoring, or public health tasks, such as campus patrols and epidemic prevention disinfection in smart cities.

Heavy-duty and multi-functional transport environments: Suitable for high-tonnage towing scenarios, such as forklift-style AGVs handling heavy equipment in factories or ports, supporting loads ranging from hundreds of kilograms to several tons.
